Open Space & Recreation

Weehawken Waterfront Park and Recreation Center

On Tuesday September 25, 2007 we opened phase one of the Weehawken Waterfront Park and Recreation Center, which provides over 16 acres of recreation space alongside the Hudson River. What was once unusable industrial contaminated commercial space is now a beautiful open public park accessible to all.

Phase one of the park includes two baseball fields, a soccer/football field, a running track, tennis courts, a golf putting green, fitness equipment, an amphitheater for public performances, 2 tot lots and many other amenities. The second phase, currently under design will contain a municipal swimming pool, a hockey/skating rink, a canoe and kayak launch, as well other facilities.

Daniel Webster School Garden of Reading

Another magnificent addition to Weehawken’s open space is the Daniel Webster School Garden of Reading located on the corner of Maple Street and Palisade Avenue.  This space was acquired with country grants for the Hudson County Open Space fund.  It allows for children to enjoy to joy of reading throughout the school year when teachers will hold class in the garden and read stories to the children.

Louis A. Ferullo Memorial Field

In April the Township opened the newly renovated field at Weehawken Stadium. The new field is a state of the art Field Turf installation containing both a football field and baseball diamond. The new field is dedicated to Louis A. Ferullo.
Louis is the former 1st Ward Councilman and Deputy Mayor who passed away in 2003.  He was an ever present mentor to Weehawken’s young athletes and could always been seen at the stadium    Although he is gone, his memory will live on forever as future generations play and train on the Louis A. Ferullo Memorial Field at Weehawken Stadium.
